SUMMARY:Conversations on Equity: Higher Education’s Role in Pursuing Economic Equity
DESCRIPTION:The Institute for Economic Equity’s next Conversations on Equity event will examine higher education’s role in achieving economic equity and feature discussion led by two Eighth Federal Reserve District university presidents and Institute Director Dr. William M. Rodgers III. \n\n\n\nPanelists\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Jerryl Briggs Sr.\, President\, Mississippi Valley State University\n\n\n\nDr. Fred Pestello\, President\, Saint Louis University \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPanelists will share their reflections on how the higher education system serves as an important pathway for economic equity. They will also share challenges that it faces: an increasingly diverse student body with varied needs (especially for degree completion)\, affordability\, and the need to cultivate personal and financial success among students following their education. \n\n\n\nThe institutions that the panelists represent highlight the diversity in today’s higher education system. For instance\, enrollment at the two universities ranges from just over 2\,400 students to close to 13\,000 students and the portion of their student bodies that received Pell grants-financial aid intended for low-income students-ranges from 20% to 80%.  \n\n\n\nFor more information\, contact the St. Louis Fed’s Community Development staff at communitydevelopment@stls.frb.org.The Conversations on Equity series features national thought leaders who are working to build awareness of obstacles to economic equity. Guests share their views on a range of integral topics and discuss evidence-based solutions aimed at dismantling such obstacles. \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented By
