SUMMARY:Keys to Opportunity in the Housing Market: Renting\, Owning\, and Implications for the Racial Wealth Gap
DESCRIPTION:Stable and affordable rental housing provides an essential foundation for economic participation and upward mobility. At the same time\, homeownership has historically provided a primary pathway to wealth creation in the US. Consequently\, the dual aims of affordability and wealth generation can put rental and homeownership policies at odds with each other. \n\n\n\nJoin us November 13 at 10 am PT/1 pm ET for a research-driven discussion around efforts to increase rental affordability\, access to homeownership\, and housing stability. Experts will also address how different approaches to these aims will have implications for the ability of housing policy to reduce wealth disparities by race and income. \n\n\n\n\nWatch on Demand\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers & Agenda\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1:00-1:05 pm ET \n\n\n\nIntroduction and welcoming remarks \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJennie BlizzardCommunications AdvisorFed Communities \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nElizabeth KneeboneAssistant Vice President\, Community Development ResearchFederal Reserve Bank of San Francisco \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1:05-1:45 pm ET \n\n\n\nPanel 1: Strategies to address the affordability gap for renters \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPeggy BaileyVice President for Housing and Income SecurityCenter on Budget and Policy PrioritiesModerator \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIngrid Gould EllenPaulette Goddard Professor of Urban Policy and Planning\, Director for Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban PolicyNew York University \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSara KimberlinExecutive Director and Senior Research ScholarStanford Center on Poverty and Inequality \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1:45-2:25 pm ET \n\n\n\nPanel 2: Challenges in increasing access to homeownership and closing the racial wealth gap \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRocio Sanchez-MoyanoSenior Researcher\, Community DevelopmentFederal Reserve Bank of San FranciscoModerator \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJung Hyun ChoiSenior Research Associate\, Housing Finance Policy CenterUrban Institute \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCarolina ReidI.
