SUMMARY:Rural Community Action Assembly: Recovery-Friendly Workplaces for Workforce Development
DESCRIPTION:Recovery-friendly workplaces allow businesses to be at the forefront of using inclusive hiring practices to address workforce shortages and offer opportunities to often-stigmatized\, historically overlooked job seekers. This event is for rural economic or workforce development corporations\, rural chambers of commerce\, nonprofits working with low- and moderate-income communities\, and other rural or countywide decision makers who want to learn more about inclusive workforce models. Participation is free for this virtual event but registration is required. \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nAttendees will hear from subject matter experts who will make the economic case for a more inclusive and wholistic approach to labor force participation. You’ll learn about the benefits of businesses becoming recovery-friendly workplaces and how this approach has evolved from a recruitment strategy to a new philosophy for hiring methods. \n\n\n\nPresenters include \n\n\n\n\n\nLisa Davis\, Director\, Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health\n\n\n\nGlenn Sterner\, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice\, Penn State Abington\n\n\n\nKristina Brant\, Assistant Professor of Rural Sociology\, Penn State University\n\n\n\nDenise H. Continenza\, Extension Educator\, Food\, Families & Health\, Penn State Extension – Lehigh County\n\n\n\nDouglas Swanson\, Coordinator for the Labor Studies Program\, University of Missouri–St. Louis\n\n\n\n\n\nA video recording and presentations will be shared publicly afterward.
