SUMMARY:Expanding Opportunity: Investing in Employment Social Enterprise
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, April 7\, 2022\, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York\, in partnership with the nonprofit REDF\, will host a hybrid event\, “Expanding Opportunity: Investing in Employment Social Enterprise.” This event focuses on the significant economic benefits of expanding job and career opportunities for people who often encounter hurdles to employment\, including people who have experienced incarceration\, homelessness\, foster care\, and other challenges. \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe event will begin\, for in-person attendees\, with the screening of a documentary\, “The Road Up\,” which follows four participants in a Chicago job-training program. Remote attendees will receive a link in advance to view the 93-minute film electronically. The screening will be followed by a discussion with one of the film’s creators\, Greg Jacobs. \n\n\n\nPanelists will discuss how capital has fueled the growth of New York-area employment social enterprises\, which are organizations that employ people who have historically been shut out of the workforce\, while also producing goods and services that positively impact their communities. \n\n\n\nThe event is being held as part of the New York Fed’s focus on three areas affecting community development: household financial well-being\, climate-related risks to low- and moderate-income communities\, and the social determinants of health. \n\n\n\nThis event is open to the public and media. Attendees can register to attend either in-person or virtually. All remarks are on-the-record and the event will be livestreamed with a recording to be made available afterwards. SUMMARY:Economic Mobility Project: What Is Inclusive Full Employment?
DESCRIPTION:Join the Chicago Fed for the Economic Mobility Project’s inaugural virtual event exploring what a truly inclusive form of full employment would look like and what the Fed can do to help achieve it.  \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent details\n\n\n\nIn August 2020\, the Federal Reserve released its new monetary policy framework: the strategies\, tools\, and communication practices it employs to achieve its congressionally mandated goals of maximum employment and price stability. The new framework is based on a 20-month review during which Fed officials traveled the country and met with a wide range of organizations to hear about how monetary policy affects people’s daily lives and livelihoods. This framework states that the full employment mandate is viewed as “broad and inclusive.” Given the uneven recovery from the economic recession caused by the pandemic\, what does this mean in practice? How can the Federal Reserve help ensure an inclusive form of full employment while also addressing its price stability mandate? \n\n\n\nThe event will include a presentation providing an overview of intergenerational economic mobility and panel discussion with prominent speakers from outside the Fed. Be sure to stay for the fireside chat on different perspectives about inclusive employment and its implications for monetary policy\, with Charles Evans\, president\, Chicago Fed\, and Raphael Bostic\, president\, Atlanta Fed. \n\n\n\nSpeakers include\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBhashkar MazumderSenior Economist and Economic AdvisorChicago Fed \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCharles EvansPresidentChicago Fed \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRaphael BosticPresidentAtlanta Fed \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWendy EdelbergDirector\, The Hamilton ProjectBrookings Institution \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWilliam SpriggsProfessor of Economics\, Howard UniversityChief Economist\, AFL-CIO \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMichael StrainDirector of Economic Policy StudiesAmerican Enterprise Institute \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented by\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Economic Mobility Project\n\n\n\nThe Chicago Fed Economic Mobility Project provides evidence-based research on the factors and policies that affect economic mobility to those who can enact meaningful change.
