SUMMARY:2022 Center for Indian Country Development Research Summit: Unlocking Our Full Economic Potential
DESCRIPTION:As part of its mission to support tribal economic prosperity\, the Center for Indian Country Development (CICD) at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis conducts and supports policy-relevant research on key questions that matter for Indian Country. We invite you to join us December 1–2 for an open discussion of new insights and opportunities at CICD’s annual research summit. The theme of this year’s summit is Unlocking Our Full Economic Potential. \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe summit is intended for anyone who cares about better research that can help tribes achieve their economic and social objectives. Join tribal leaders\, social science researchers\, policymakers\, and others as we learn about and discuss the latest research that can help tribal economies flourish. Even if you can’t attend the entire event\, we welcome your participation. \n\n\n\nResearchers will briefly present their findings in an accessible way\, with tribal leaders and practitioners giving their reactions\, followed by panel discussions. In addition\, researchers will identify what policymakers can learn from the research evidence\, and tribal leaders will explain what they’d like to know from future research. If you’re interested in submitting a research paper for the summit\, learn more in our call for papers. \n\n\n\nA detailed agenda and list of speakers will be shared in the coming weeks. We hope you’ll join us and contribute your perspectives to this important conversation.

SUMMARY:Connecting Communities: Putting the Community Reinvestment Act to Work in Your Community
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is now available to watch on-demand. \n\n\n\nIt can be difficult for community-based organizations to fund projects and programs. But if they’re eligible for investment under the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA)\, that could give them an edge.  The CRA encourages banks to support community development initiatives in low- and moderate-income communities. This legislation has been an important tool for driving innovation in partnerships and delivery models and increasing funding to eligible projects.   \n\n\n\nJoin us for a discussion with community-based organizations and bankers who have successfully worked together by developing CRA-eligible project proposals through the Federal Reserve’s Investment Connection program. During the webinar\, you’ll gain an understanding of how to identify potential partners\, develop mutually supportive relationships\, and shape proposals that speak to the needs of organizations and funders alike. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJennie BlizzardCommunications AdvisorFed Communities \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStacy ClaySenior Vice President\, Midwest Retail Lead\, and Director of Community AffairsFirst Bank \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAriel CisnerosLead Community Development AdvisorKansas City Fed \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCasey SorensenCEOPCs for People \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJames Wareham-MorrisSenior Vice President of Risk ManagementAlpine Bank  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSara MiddendorfDirector of St. Louis Builds CreditProsperity Connection \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented by\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Connecting Communities®\n\n\n\nReal people. SUMMARY:Ask the Fed: A Discussion of Unrealized Losses at Community Banks in a Rising Interest Rate Environment
DESCRIPTION:Market interest rates have risen in 2022 at a pace not experienced in a generation. In this current environment\, a bank may have unrealized holding gains and losses excluded from earnings\, but report accumulated other comprehensive income (AOCI) for unrealized losses on its available-for-sale (AFS) securities portfolio. As a result\, a bank may experience a dynamic change in its balance sheet\, arising from the devaluation in its bond portfolio and lower or negative tangible common equity. \n\n\n\nPlease join Governor Michelle Bowman\, Senior Vice President Tara Humston\, and Manager Brett Leavell as they discuss the Federal Reserve’s supervisory posture for a bank with falling bond portfolio values and low or negative tangible common equity. This session will also attempt to answer the question—what can a bank do now to address the risks associated with low or negative tangible common equity? \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresenters\n\n\n\nMichelle Bowman\, Governor\, Federal Reserve Board of Governors \n\n\n\nTara Humston\, Senior Vice President\, Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City \n\n\n\nBrett Leavell\, Manager\, Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City
