SUMMARY:Connecting Communities: Bridging the Gap: Empowering Underbanked Communities with Instant Payments
DESCRIPTION:Access to affordable\, reliable payment services is essential to household financial stability—yet many consumers still face barriers. Today\, 14.2 percent of US households are considered underbanked\, meaning they rely on alternative nonbank financial products even though they have a bank account. This gap presents an opportunity for financial institutions and community development organizations to design solutions that better meet consumers’ needs. One promising avenue is instant payments\, which can help replace costly\, less‑regulated alternatives. \n\n\n\nTo support this work\, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston has developed the Financial Inclusion Resource Center\, an online hub offering data\, insights\, and tools to help institutions understand underbanked populations and strengthen their payment strategies. The Center features a new\, national level interactive data tool that highlights the geographic distribution of underbanked households\, along with survey findings that shed light on why consumers turn to high‑cost nonbank services. These insights can help financial institutions communicate the benefits of instant payment products and tailor offerings to the communities they serve. \n\n\n\nDuring this webinar\, participants will benefit from a range of informative conversations designed to deepen their understanding of financial inclusion and instant payments: \n\n\n\n\n\nInteractive Data Tool Demonstration: Attendees will see a live demonstration of the new interactive data tool\, which provides valuable insights into the geographic distribution and characteristics of underbanked households.\n\n\n\nInstant Payments Discussion: The webinar will feature a discussion on how instant payments serve as a viable solution for replacing expensive nonbank payment services\, highlighting their potential to improve affordability and accessibility.\n\n\n\nFedNow Insights: Participants will gain practical perspectives on instant payments from FedNow’s Nerissa Aslantas\, exploring real-world applications and implications for financial institutions.\n\n\n\nFinancial Institution Perspective: A practitioner from a consortium of financial institutions will share their experience\, explaining why the data tool and other available datasets focused on underbanked populations are crucial to delivering responsive financial services and building partnerships between banks\, non-profits\, and government.\n\n\n\n\n\nRelated resources: \n\n\n\n\n\nWhere Are the Underbanked Areas? — Data Tool\n\n\n\nWhy are the ‘underbanked’ paying more for financial services?\n\n\n\nInclusive Payments Resource Center\n\n\n\nAlternative Financial Services Survey Findings\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJason AndradeDirector of Research and Membership EngagementPartnership for Financial Equity \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNerissa AslantasProduct Senior ManagerFederal Reserve Bank of Boston \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBrian ClarkeDeputy DirectorFederal Reserve Bank of Boston \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSergio Galeano (moderator)Community & Economic Development AdvisorFederal Reserve Bank of Atlanta \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented by\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Connecting Communities®\n\n\n\nReal people. SUMMARY:Balancing the Stack: Affordable Housing Finance Forum
DESCRIPTION:Affordable housing projects in the Midwest face serious challenges. Developers struggle to find enough financing\, deal with complex regulations\, and manage rising construction costs. These barriers make it hard for projects to “pencil out” financially\, adding to the shortage of affordable homes. \n\n\n\nThe Affordable Housing Finance Forum is your chance to connect with developers\, investors\, lenders\, policymakers\, and community leaders to address one of our region’s most pressing challenges: blending multiple streams of funding to build more affordable housing. \n\n\n\nThe forum’s agenda comes from the Kansas City Fed’s ongoing outreach to affordable-housing stakeholders. It addresses key challenges and opportunities they’ve identified in affordable housing finance. You will connect with experts on housing market trends and policy solutions during our plenary sessions\, then dive into break-out sessions on critical financing and development topics. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re a developer\, lender\, investor\, policymaker\, philanthropist\, or researcher\, this conference offers valuable perspectives and connections to advance your work. \n\n\n\nSpace is limited — secure your spot now. \n\n\n\nRegistration deadline: October 30\, 2026 \n\n\n\nWho should attend?\n\n\n\n\n\nAffordable housing developers (for-profit\, not-for-profit)\n\n\n\nAffordable housing financers (banks\, CDFIs\, investors)\n\n\n\nGovernment leaders (local\, state\, federal\, tribal)\n\n\n\nPhilanthropic organizations\n\n\n\nCommunity-based organizations\n\n\n\nHousing researchers\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented by\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation

SUMMARY:Making Missing Markets: Catalyzing Capital and Igniting Innovation
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, November 18\, 2026\, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York will host a hybrid event as part of the Making Missing Markets Initiative\, an effort to foster and improve markets channeling investments into under-resourced communities.   \n\n\n\nInvestments to improve communities’ economic opportunities across sectors are typically fragmented. Moreover\, they fail to attract private capital at a scale commensurate with the size of the problem. The Making Missing Markets Initiative seeks to change this dynamic and improve well-being across all communities\, especially low- and moderate-income communities. \n\n\n\nThis event will include speakers and panelists who are developing new business models that better address the root causes of communities’ challenges. This event will be of interest to leaders in finance\, philanthropy\, community development\, and academia\, and anyone else interested in creating new markets aimed at fostering opportunity-rich communities.  \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAudience\n\n\n\nThis event is open to the public. \n\n\n\nMedia\n\n\n\nThis event is open to the media. All remarks are on the record\, with the recording to be made available afterwards. For media inquiries\, please contact Ellen Simon at Ellen.Simon@ny.frb.org. \n\n\n\nPresented by\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\nThis is a hybrid event.
