SUMMARY:Class Dismissed: The Economic Cost of Pandemic Learning Loss
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\n\n\n\nImagine a classroom where the vibrant energy of students learning and growing is abruptly silenced. Schools worldwide shut their doors as the COVID-19 pandemic sweeps across nations\, leaving millions of students isolated from their teachers and peers. Online learning becomes the new norm\, but the digital divide and lack of resources create significant barriers. \n\n\n\nJoin us Thursday\, November 14\, for the next installment in our District Dialogues series as we bring together economists\, educators and policymakers to analyze how prolonged school closures and remote learning have affected student achievement and how it could impact our future workforce and economy. Attendees will gain insights into the long-term economic consequences of educational setbacks\, including potential impacts on workforce productivity\, educational inequality and economic growth. \n\n\n\nFour Ways to Attend\n\n\n\nFor this year’s District Dialogues event\, we’re offering four ways to join the conversation: In person at one of our three branch locations (Richmond\, Baltimore\, or Charlotte–addresses below) or virtually via Zoom. \n\n\n\n\n\nFederal Reserve Bank of Richmond\, Richmond Branch\, 701 E Byrd Street\, Richmond\, VA 23219\n\n\n\nFederal Reserve Bank of Richmond\, Baltimore Branch\, 502 S. SUMMARY:Survey of Community College Outcomes: 2024 Results and the Future of the Survey
DESCRIPTION:Community colleges play a major role in workforce and economic development\, and at the Richmond Fed\, we’re committed to understanding the economic impacts that important institutions like these have across the Fifth District. Unfortunately\, existing data collected across states do not fully describe the range of outcomes achieved by community college students. Individual community colleges use many metrics to gauge their success\, but these can vary from school to school\, and from state to state\, which makes it hard to compare across institutions and track outcomes consistently over time. \n\n\n\nThe Richmond Fed’s Survey of Community College Outcomes (SCCO) is a quantitative\, consistent system for measuring community college outcomes that provides a fuller view of what success looks like for community college students. This includes part-time students\, those who have attended college previously and other non-traditional students — and will allow for better analysis on how student success contributes to local workforce and economic development. Additionally\, we collect data on wraparound services offered by community colleges\, dual enrollment and enrollment in non-credit programs. \n\n\n\nJoin us on November 19 as we share the results of the 2024 Survey of Community College Outcomes and outline our vision for the future of the survey and our work with community colleges. \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho Should Attend\n\n\n\nCommunity College employees\, workforce development organizations\, policymakers\, educators\, funders\, business leaders. \n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\nClifford Coppersmith\, President\, Chesapeake CollegeGalen DeHay\, President\, Tri-County Technical CollegeStephanie Norris\, Senior Research Analyst\, Federal Reserve Bank of RichmondLaura Dawson Ullrich\, Regional Economist and Senior Manager\, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond \n\n\n\nPresented by\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation

SUMMARY:Dialogue with the Fed—Talking Turkey: The Fed and the Economy
DESCRIPTION:The classic Thanksgiving dinner table: turkey\, dressing\, green beans … and the often-unavoidable debates. We can’t help you settle the debate of dressing versus stuffing or whether Aunt Marge’s gelatin creation can really be called a salad. But we can provide you with some facts\, stats and data that will help you feel informed and prepared when the chatter turns to the economy. \n\n\n\nOn Wednesday\, Nov. 20\, let’s talk turkey about the economy during a special virtual session of Dialogue with the Fed. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a lively Q&A with several St. Louis Fed experts: \n\n\n\n\nMiguel Faria-e-Castro\, economic policy advisor\n\n\n\nAmanda Geiger\, senior economic education specialist\n\n\n\nLaura Taylor\, government relations advisor \n\n\n\n\nThey’ll be discussing a variety of topics relating to the Federal Reserve and the economy—and during the event you’ll have the chance to ask your own questions through our online chat feature. \n\n\n\nThis virtual-only event is open to the public and there is no cost to attend\, but registration is required.  \n\n\n\nQuestions? Contact Ellen Amato at ellen.amato@stls.frb.org or 314-444-3749. \n\n\n\nThis presentation is part of the St. Louis Fed’s discussion series\, Dialogue with the Fed: Beyond Today’s Financial Headlines. SUMMARY:Midwest Agriculture Conference
DESCRIPTION:After several strong years\, agriculture has generally been less profitable lately\, and astute operators have a renewed focus on minimizing input costs. On December 3\, 2024\, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago will hold a hybrid event to evaluate shifts related to agricultural inputs for Midwest farming. Every farm operation needs inputs to function\, yet in recent years there have been numerous modifications to the structure of input markets. The lay of the land for farm inputs has evolved as technological\, financial\, and competitive factors have brought change. Experts from academia\, industry\, and policy institutions will gather at the conference to discuss the altered economics of agricultural inputs. \n\n\n\nIn-person cost $40. \n\n\n\nRegistration deadline: December 2\, 2024. \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n8:15 am CT \n\n\n\n\n\nBreakfast and registration\n\n\n\n*For in person audiences \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n9:00 am CT \n\n\n\n\n\nWelcome Remarks\n\n\n\nLeslie McGranahan\, Senior Vice President\, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n9:10 am CT \n\n\n\n\n\nSession I: Agricultural Inputs and Market Shifts\n\n\n\nKate Vaiknoras\, Research Agricultural Economist\, Economic Research Service\, U.S. Department of Agriculture \n\n\n\nBrian Briggeman\, Professor and Director\, Arthur Capper Cooperative Center\, Kansas State University \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n10:40 am CT \n\n\n\n\n\nSession II: Key Topics Related to Farm Inputs\n\n\n\nVictor Cabrera\, Professor and Extension Specialist\, University of Wisconsin-Madison \n\n\n\nBruce Erickson\, Clinical Professor of Digital Agriculture\, Purdue University \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n12:00 pm CT \n\n\n\n\n\nLuncheon and Fireside Chat\n\n\n\nDavid Oppedahl\, Policy Advisor\, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago\, moderator \n\n\n\nMatt Carstens\, President & CEO\, Landus Cooperative \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1:30 pm CT \n\n\n\n\n\nSession III: Panel on Financing Farm Inputs\n\n\n\nNate Kauffman\, Senior Vice President\, Economist\, and Omaha Branch Executive\, Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City\, moderator \n\n\n\nPanelists: \n\n\n\nMichael Gunderson\, Chief Credit Officer\, Farm Credit Illinois \n\n\n\nDavid Hardin\, Hardin Farms \n\n\n\nSusan Whitson\, CEO\, First Bank\, and President\, First of Waverly Corporation \n\n\n\nJohn Winger\, Director\, A&T Retail Credit Delivery – US & Canada\, John Deere Finance \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n2:45 pm CT \n\n\n\n\n\nClosing Remarks\n\n\n\nAustan Goolsbee\, President and CEO\, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented by\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\nThis is a hybrid event with in-person and virtual attendance options.

SUMMARY:Connecting Communities: The Power of Place: Building Inclusive Economies Through Collaboration
DESCRIPTION:Watch on Demand \n\n\n\nFrom the northeast corner of Maine to west central Texas\, leaders are partnering with regional Reserve Banks—and each other—in unique ways to help ensure that local economies work better for everyone. What does it take to work across sectors and collaborate effectively to help change a local economy? \n\n\n\nLocal leaders who participated in three Fed-supported place-based initiatives\, Working Places (Boston)\, Advance Together (Dallas)\, and Southern Cities Economic Inclusion (Atlanta)\, will discuss during a panel what economic challenges each initiative took on and how they partnered with Federal Reserve Banks’ community development departments to address them. They’ll also share results of this work. \n\n\n\nAttendees will gain perspectives on what’s needed to build sustainable and impactful collaborations. They will learn more about how different sectors can contribute to and benefit from engaging in place-based initiatives\, and strategies for navigating common roadblocks to achieve long-term results. \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRelated materials\n\n\n\n\n\nSouthern Cities Economic Inclusion Initiative Round One Report Out\n\n\n\nWorking Places at 10: Leaders in 3 Working Cities reflect on successes\, lessons learned\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nColleen DawickiDirector\, Regional and Community OutreachFederal Reserve Bank of Boston \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKatrina EverettCity Councilor and Social EntrepreneurCity of Haverhill \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTim KellyMayor Chattanooga\, TN \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmelia ReevesChief Partnerships OfficerWorkforce Solutions of West Central Texas \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSydney DiavuaAssistant Vice PresidentCommunity DevelopmentFederal Reserve Bank of St. Louismoderator \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented by\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Connecting Communities®\n\n\n\nReal people. SUMMARY:Innovation in Homeownership Opportunities for Low- and Moderate-Income Communities
DESCRIPTION:Lack of access to homeownership options is a barrier to participation in the economy for low- and moderate-income communities. While homeownership is the primary form of wealth accumulation in the U.S.\, it is increasingly unattainable for low- and moderate-income populations\, particularly in job-rich metro areas.  \n\n\n\nJoin us on Tuesday\, March 25th as we dig deeper into the landscape of homeownership types beyond single-family\, and the challenges and opportunities that come with financing and developing  them.   \n\n\n\nDrawing on a new SF Fed report quantifying more affordable homeownership types—such as condos\, co-ops\, community land trusts (CLTs)\, duplexes\, and homes with accessory dwelling units (ADUs)—this session will include research findings and a panel of speakers from organizations that are innovating around financing and development models for different types of homeownership. \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented by\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation
