SUMMARY:The State of the Nation's Housing 2025
DESCRIPTION:This year\, the US housing market is shrouded in uncertainty and unease. High home prices and interest rates have pushed sales to their lowest level in 30 years; insurance premiums and property taxes are on the rise; high rents have left record numbers with cost burdens; and wildfires have highlighted the growing dangers of climate disasters. Meanwhile\, households find diminished federal support\, with the possibility of an economic downturn that would only exacerbate these challenges. \n\n\n\nJoin us online or in person at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston for the release of The State of the Nation’s Housing 2025. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor those attending virtually: A link will be shared in advance of the event. \n\n\n\nFor those attending in person: Please plan to arrive 15-30 minutes early. The Bank is located at 600 Atlantic Avenue\, directly across the street from South Station and easily accessible via public transit. Upon entering the Bank\, all guests are asked to show a government-issued photo ID at the security desk. After receiving a visitor’s pass\, you’ll go through a security screening area (similar to airport screenings) as part of the entry process. \n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\nSusan Collins\, President and CEO\, Federal Reserve Bank of Boston\n\n\n\nChris Herbert\, Managing Director\, Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies\n\n\n\nThe Hon. SUMMARY:District Dialogues: Maximizing Employment: Understanding Labor Force Participation
DESCRIPTION:What is labor force participation\, and what role does it play in the Fed’s mandate from Congress to maximize employment? Why did the post-pandemic workforce “bounce back” faster in some regions and industries than others? \n\n\n\nThe next installment in our District Dialogues event series—which brings together subject matter experts\, business and community leaders\, and Richmond Fed economists to dialogue on top economic topics facing our region—will dig into national\, regional\, and state labor market data to discuss the crucial role labor force participation plays in economic growth and stability and why it can vary across different geographies and sectors of the economy. \n\n\n\nInterested in learning more? All community members are invited to join us Thursday\, June 26 at 8:30 AM in person at the Richmond Fed’s Baltimore\, MD Branch office or virtually via Zoom. There is no cost to attend\, but all attendees are asked to register in advance. In-person attendees are invited to join us before the event for networking and refreshments. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\nAndy Bauer\, Vice President and Regional Executive\, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond\n\n\n\nJohn Bailey Jones\, Vice President of Microeconomic Analysis\, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond\n\n\n\nBrooke Lierman\, Comptroller of Maryland\n\n\n\nMelanie Styles\, Senior Program Officer – Workforce Development\,\, Abell Foundation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n8:30 – 9:00 am ET \n\n\n\n\n\nContinental Breakfast & NetworkingIn Person \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n9:00 – 10:30 am ET \n\n\n\n\n\nPresentation\, Panel Discussion and Audience Q&AIn Person and Virtual Audiences \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n10:30 – 11:00 am ET \n\n\n\n\n\nClosing Remarks and NetworkingIn Person \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented by\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\nThis is a hybrid event.

SUMMARY:Labor\, Leisure\, and Life Choices: How Child-Rearing and Local Amenities Impact Urban Migration
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, July 10\, 2025\, at 11:00 am CT\, join the Economic Mobility Project of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago for a thought-provoking virtual discussion on the intersections of skill development\, geographic mobility\, and urban living\, centered on “Skills\, migration\, and urban amenities over the life cycle\,” a study by Jason Faberman\, senior economist at the Chicago Fed. \n\n\n\nWe will explore how individuals decide where to move based on their skill levels and life stage and how urban amenities\, from job opportunities to lifestyle factors\, play a key role in attracting talent at different stages of their careers and lives. Moderated by Sarah Holder\, a panel of experts including Arthur Gailes\, Angela Habr\, and Hannah Love\, will examine the following questions. \n\n\n\n\n\nHow do cities attract and retain skilled workers at different life stages?\n\n\n\nWhat role do local amenities and economic conditions play in these migration patterns?\n\n\n\nHow do early-career choices shape long-term geographic and economic outcomes?\n\n\n\n\n\nWith implications for urban policy\, workforce development\, and regional planning\, this conversation is essential for researchers\, policymakers\, and professionals focused on labor markets\, human capital\, and the ever-evolving role of cities in a post-pandemic economy. \n\n\n\nAudience Q&A will follow the panel discussion. Viewers can ask questions in advance during event registration and on X @ChicagoFed using hashtag #UrbanAmenities. \n\n\n\nRegistration Deadline: July 10\, 2025 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n11:00 am CT \n\n\n\n\n\nWelcome and Framing RemarksSpeaker: Kristen Broady\, Senior Economist\, Economic Advisor\, and Director of the Economic Mobility Project\, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n11:02 am CT \n\n\n\n\n\nSkills\, Migration\, and Urban Amenities Over the Life CycleSpeaker: Jason Faberman\, Senior Economist & Economic Advisor\, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n11:18 am CT \n\n\n\n\n\nPanel DiscussionModerator:  Sarah Holder\, Co-Host of Bloomberg’s Big Take Podcast and Reporter\, Bloomberg News \n\n\n\nPanelists: \n\n\n\nArthur Gailes\, Senior Manager of Housing Supply Initiatives | AEI Housing Center\, American Enterprise Institute \n\n\n\nAngela Habr\, Executive Director\, Hyde Park Neighborhood Club \n\n\n\nHannah Love\, Fellow\, Brookings Metro\, Anne T. and Robert M. SUMMARY:Cutting Hours Instead of Cutting Jobs: Shared Work Within the Unemployment Insurance System

SUMMARY:FedTalk: Meeting the Workforce Needs of In-Demand Industries in Ohio
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a discussion of innovative ways that places are expanding workforce pipelines for in-demand industries\, using the semiconductor and related industries in Ohio as an example. \n\n\n\nThe production of semiconductors\, including microchips which are used in a wide variety of electronic applications such as phones and computers\, is growing in the United States. Major investments have been made in states like Ohio\, Arizona\, Texas\, New York and Oregon. One expert will present findings from case studies about how local partners from private industry\, education and nonprofits in these places have come together to both boost productivity for employers and create promising career pathways for workers\, particularly workers without a college degree. \n\n\n\nThe panel will then share their perspectives on the unique challenges and opportunities in Ohio\, including what’s going well and where they see room for future innovation and growth. Specifically\, they will discuss the role of community colleges in developing workforce and training programs that are not tethered to one employer or one industry but designed to give workers transferable skills that can be used across multiple career pathways. What are some of the challenges unique to this state versus others? Where are there successes and where do challenges remain? \n\n\n\nPanelists will discuss: \n\n\n\n\n\nThe promise of the semiconductor industry\, and related industries\n\n\n\nThe dynamism of these industries and their changing needs\n\n\n\nWhat we know about effective models of cross-sector workforce partnerships both locally and nationally.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe presentation and panel discussion will be followed by Q&A. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\nLavea Brachman\, Nonresident Senior Fellow\, Brookings Institution and Visiting Fellow\, University of College\, London\n\n\n\nAbbi Failla\, Vice President\, Business Operations\, EASE\n\n\n\nScott McLemore\, Member\, Executive Board\, Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation and Executive in Residence\, Columbus State Community College\n\n\n\n\n\nModerator\n\n\n\n\n\nKhaz Finley\, Outreach Manager\, Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented by\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation

SUMMARY:Fed Talk: A Conversation with Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland President Beth Hammack
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a conversation with Beth Hammack\, president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland\, to discuss the critical functions of Reserve Banks\, the state of the economy\, and ways Reserve Banks engage with the public. \n\n\n\nThis program offers a deeper understanding of the Federal Reserve’s role in the economy and the Fed’s impact on everyday life. \n\n\n\nThe event will be offered both virtually and in person at the Bank’s location in downtown Cleveland. Following the session\, in-person attendees may tour the Bank’s main building\, constructed in 1923. \n\n\n\nReserve Banks play a pivotal role in the US financial system. The Cleveland Fed touches everyone in the Fourth District by \n\n\n\n\n\nWorking with community and business partners to understand the economic landscape\n\n\n\nSupervising financial institutions\n\n\n\nPlaying a vital role in the nation’s payments system\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn her first year\, President Hammack has engaged with local community and business leaders in the Bank’s Fourth Federal Reserve District\, comprising Ohio and parts of Kentucky\, Pennsylvania\, and West Virginia. She then brings their insights into how the economy is working for their communities to the Federal Reserve’s policy-setting meeting in Washington DC. \n\n\n\nThere are 12 Reserve Banks across the country. Each serves a specific region\, and all Reserve Banks operate under the umbrella of the Federal Reserve System. \n\n\n\nThe primary functions of the Federal Reserve concern \n\n\n\n\n\nMonetary policy: Setting US monetary policy to promote maximum employment and stable prices in the US economy. The aim is to protect your standard of living.\n\n\n\nSupervision and regulation: Promoting the safety and soundness of individual financial institutions and monitoring their impact on the financial system. As a result\, you can be confident the bank you choose is operating in a safe and sound manner.\n\n\n\nPayments systems: Promoting a safe\, efficient\, and accessible system for US dollar transactions. This includes circulation of paper currency and coin. It also ensures the safe transport of transferred money and electronic bill payments from point A to point B.\n\n\n\nFinancial stability: Monitoring financial system risks. SUMMARY:The Importance of Home Equity in Wealth Building
DESCRIPTION:Owning a home is an important wealth-building tool. When a home’s value appreciates\, the equity that accrues can serve as a valuable resource for emergency expenses\, essential home repairs\, or income-enhancing investments like education or training. \n\n\n\nFor many Americans\, their home is their largest asset. Roughly 65 percent of households in the United States own their homes\, and housing continues to represent the largest share of household wealth. Yet research shows there are significant differences in how homeowners leverage their home equity. A Philadelphia Fed study revealed that wealth-building pathways through homeownership vary significantly by household and neighborhood. A key finding was that residents’ experiences with refinancing mortgages and debt varied widely. \n\n\n\nIn support of the Philadelphia Fed’s goal of promoting a sound financial system and a strong\, healthy economy\, this event aims to examine wealth building in low- and moderate-income (LMI) communities through the lens of home equity.  \n\n\n\nWhy Attend?\n\n\n\nJoin speakers\, panelists\, and your peers to examine the importance of home equity in wealth building\, explore a data-driven approach to identifying households vulnerable to the loss of home equity\, and advance solutions that preserve and protect home equity in LMI communities. \n\n\n\nPresentations will include “The Role of Home Equity in Wealth Building” and “Using Data to Prevent the Loss of Home Equity in New York City.” Panelists will also explore the importance of financial products and services that allow LMI homeowners to safely access home equity\, specifically in times of financial vulnerability. \n\n\n\nSpeakers will include: \n\n\n\n\n\nKen Benton\, Principal Consumer Regulations Specialist\, Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia;\n\n\n\nChristopher Cummins\, Staff Attorney\, Homeownership Rights\, SeniorLAW Center;\n\n\n\nMatthew Murphy\, Executive Director\, NYU Furman Center; \n\n\n\nSamantha Porter\, Senior Advisor\, Community Engagement\, Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia;\n\n\n\nMaureen Yap\, Vice President of Public Policy and Senior Counsel for Fair Lending\, National Fair Housing Alliance; and\n\n\n\nSisi Zhang\, Community Development Economic Advisor\, Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. \n\n\n\n\n\nWho Should Attend?\n\n\n\nProfessionals working in the housing and financial services sectors\, funders and nonprofits serving LMI communities\, and policymakers in the Third District are encouraged to attend.  \n\n\n\nThis event is complimentary\, but registration is required. Space is limited\, so reserve your spot now. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented by\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation
