Please join the Federal Reserve Bank of New York on November 30, 2021 at 10:30 AM for a virtual event, Combating Food Insecurity: What’s Working and What’s Scalable? The event will feature leaders, from all sectors of the food system, who are investing in and deploying market-based solutions and interventions to help ensure that everyone has access to healthy and affordable food ─ one of the most critical determinants of health.
Food insecurity is detrimental to the economy. More than 38 million people were considered food insecure in 2020, relying on food pantries and community-based programs. Meanwhile, 30 to 40 percent of all food produced in the United States goes to waste for a loss of $161 billion per year. While food insecurity reflects many systemic challenges, addressing it presents a number of opportunities to be explored.
